Our bicycle vacation in Belgium took us through a mixed landscape of beautiful forests and fields. Quite often we had those fields on one of our sides and on the other side a channel. It was very idyllic to ride that close to the water and have all those boats trafficking the floating roads beside us. Sometimes the boats were out fishing but most of the work seemed to be focused on the shipping of different products. Most of the time work looked rather relaxed but when reaching a bridge, waiting for it to be opened, traffic could be quite busy as you can see below.
Something that I expected but actually never came true was that Belgium was going to be full of relics and memories from the First and Second World War. I was surprised to see that it wasn’t so but we came across a few old bunkers on our way. Things would change drastically later on as we reached the town Ypres but I’ll save that for another day.
