Here is some kind of factory we passed on our trip in Belgium. There were many factories, both new and old ones, along the canals so it’s easy to understand how important the canals were to freight goods on before. The most interesting thing in the picture, at least to me, is the landing-stage. Notice those high pillars on either side of it? They are needed in order to let the landing-stage rise with the tide as it comes in. How much the water level changes differ but at most it is close to 6 meters. That’s a pretty Impressive change when you’ve grown up in Öresund;)
